The perfect stopping point midway on your journey between Vancouver BC & Banff or Jasper, break up your day with a quick hike to stretch your legs. We will gather on the Kamloops Waterfront at Riverside Park. In Secwepemc, our local indigenous language, Tk’emlúps literally means "where the two rivers" meet. Once everyone has arrived, we will head up town for an easy walking tour through our spectacularly unusual desert grassland hillside, culminating in a sweeping vista of the entire city of Kamloops, including a bird's eye view of the recently experienced waterfront where the North and South Thompson Rivers meet. Good for all fitness levels, the gravel paths are wide and well cared for by the city of Kamloops. Afterwards we will visit a Ginseng Factory for a personal guided tour of their growing beds, learning how ginseng is planted, maintained and why it is so beneficial for your health. We will finish with a visit to the Ginseng store where token gifts, teas, candies and herbals can be purchased for yourself or friends at home. If you have time, please book to join us for our afternoon activity; spotting native big horn sheep with a gourmet picnic lunch and Local BC Winery Tour.
Colin & Alexandra
Colin & Alexandra own made with love urban farm, a culinary guest house and eco artisan food company est. in 2001. They both grew up off grid running barefoot on beaches in bear country; both are intimately familiar with Canadian wilderness. Follow us & explore our local sagebrush mountains, food forest gardens & riverside beaches. Guests have been known to remark "At Made with Love, they celebrate Thanksgiving everyday". And we do! Walk with us as we learn about wild edible harvests, local wildlife, unique local farm based businesses and the very best tourist sights Kamloops BC has to offer!
We'll share a quick snack at the look out point to keep everyone's energy up! Remember to drink lots of water.
At Riverside Park Colin will share stories of the historical Kamloops flood lines on the stone monument and the years in the last century that actually flooded our home, the old Huxley Homestead at made with love urban farm! On the viewpoint hike, you will see Thompson Rivers University, Rabbit Island and McArthur Island Park, hopefully an eagle or hawk passing by & we will find some wild edibles, tiny cacti & traditional sagebrush along the way!
