We start the walk on Long Bien Bridge, overlooking bustling and colourful Long Bien market. There is an introduction to the tour and overview of camera settings. We focus on the ‘context’ shot, capturing trains rattling into Long Bien station. After that, we wander through the alleyways leading into the Old Quarter and underneath the railway line to Phung Hung Street. Here the photographic emphasis is on capturing life around and under the tracks, the businesses and activities that spring up on the embankments and bridges that support the railway. We have a quick tea break with our friends at a local stall and a review of shots taken so far. Next we continue along the tracks to Dien Bien Phu Street and beyond, into the residential areas that lie along the tracks in this part of town. We'll chat to the locals living here, many of whom we've known for years. There is a focus now on capturing daily life in relation to the railway – different ways to build a photographic story. At 9am, we arrive at a stylish local café for breakfast and coffee, followed by a review of pictures taken on the tour. 9:30 am - Farewell
I'm co-founder of Vietnam in Focus Photo Tours. We've been leading unique photo tours and workshops in Hanoi and throughout Vietnam for over 6 years. My team of pro photographers have published work in the New York Times and Vice among others, and received many great reviews for our teaching of photography. Our itineraries are designed to bring out the best in Hanoi and your photography. The railway village is one of mine and my co-hosts Duc and Boris's favourite areas to photograph, and we'll help you with composition, settings and capturing great portraits of our local friends.
Coffee or Tea
We've been taking budding photographers to the railway village for over 6 years now. That means we have great friends locally, know the train schedule inside out, and have the inside scoop on some wonderful corners. We'll help you to take unique portraits of our local friends living here. Guests love the feeling of wandering along railway tracks in a hidden part of the city, and taking home the pics and photo skills makes it just perfect.
