Koto is one of the most traditional instruments in Japan. I'll be more than happy to show you how to play this historical 13-stringed instrument. First, you will enjoy a welcome koto performance. Then, wearing three picks on your fingers, you'll try the koto while playing "Sakura Sakura," one of the most famous traditional Japanese folk songs, often sung as a song to represent Japan. After practicing, you'll enjoy an ensemble with another koto or recorder. Apart from enjoying the koto, you'll also try to play the PVC shakuhachi, which produces an amazing sound, and I'll introduce you to other musical instruments such as the sangen (or shamisen). I will perform another western tune on koto, if you like. Finally, we'll take some pictures wearing a red happi—a straight-sleeved coat often worn at Japanese festivals. You will surely have nice pictures as a memory of Japan.
Koto has always been part of my life. My mother, who is president of this NPO and received the Kitakyushu City Cultural Contribution Award in 2013, has been teaching koto and shamisen for more than 45 years. So I have been listening to and learning koto since I was a child. Since we started working and playing hand-in-hand, we have received the Encouragement Prize of the 8th DAEP Artist Concert in 2009 and the Encouragement Prize of Nagatani Kengyo Contest in 2009.

I speak a little English, but not so well, not so fluent. I am out of town for a while. I will answer back as soon as I get home.
