Our meeting location is a roadside overlook with bathrooms, good cell reception, and great views. From there we will group up, make last minute restroom stops, and observe ‘Ō'paeka'a Falls in the distance. Once we have everyone, we will begin our journey deeper into the island’s verdant interior - distributing maps and GPS coordinates before caravanning 10 minutes inland to the secondary parking area where we will begin our hike (little to no cell reception there). Our hike begins as a gentle climb up a well-maintained trail. Learn about the impressive trees and sample wild edibles that line the way. As we make our way higher (450 ft. elevation gain) views of several mountain ranges begin to emerge. There is a large open area with expansive views in all directions at our turnaround point (2.5 miles RT). Back at the trailhead we will take a short stroll through a nearby stand of the widely popular, often photographed, "rainbow eucalyptus" trees (Eucalyptus deglupta). We will then have the option of taking a quick dip in a cool mountain stream, complete with obligatory rope swing and/or testing our balance on a slackline.
Aloha, I'm the founder of Kauaʻi Hiking Tours. I've been enjoying island life for the past 10 years, including time spent on Oʻahu, Maui and Hawaiʻi Island. In that time I've hiked every trail Kauai has to offer and gone on many "neighbor island" adventures! In total I've been guiding for nearly 20 years throughout much of the United States and internationally. I co-host with Chris, Wes, and Jess who are also super passionate about Kauaʻi, canyoneering, and hiking. We look forward to surprising you with some fresh local fruit and maybe even opening a coconut for you! Questions? - Look us up at Kauai Hiking Tours for dates/times/tours not listed here. Take in beautiful ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls then hike gorgeous Kuilau Ridge for possible views of majestic Mount Waiʻaleʻale - dubbed "the wettest place on earth" (with over 450" of annual rainfall some years). After our hike we will have the opportunity to view a tall grove of colorful rainbow Eucalyptus, take a dip in Keahua Stream, and perhaps visit a rare rudraksha tree forest/stone Ganesha statue that is part of a Hindu Monastery.
