Guests will be welcomed to the YWCA with a local drink by our host mum Isti and myself. Isti is also a beneficiary of the YWCA services and will share her background as a transnational family of six. Guests will be introduced to YWCA's work in providing community services for the needy.
Guests will then enter the YWCA Kitchen and be briefed on the menu for the day. The class starts with a demonstration and hands-on making of a local appetiser by Isti, who will also share some heritage and personal anecdotes of all dishes and ingredients. Next, guests will have a fun hands-on experience of trying to cook the main dish, with tips and guidance from her. Cooking is done in intimate groups of 2 to 4 pax so you can get to know others.
While the main dish is simmering, guests will then be treated to another demonstration of a local dessert that pairs well. When the food is ready, guests will get to enjoy the fruits of their labour by partaking in a shared meal. Isti will join them to answer any questions that they may have, and share more life stories and experiences of cooking, from another perspective of Singapore.
At the close, feedback forms are provided so guests can share candidly about how the experience went. We will take a group photo to commemorate our time together. Guests are welcome to pack leftovers home and receive a small souvenir as thanks for your support.
