You will come along to our ceilidh and will meet myself Emma, Areeva or Nonhle, we will welcome you into the ceilidh and answer and questions you may have about ceilidhs and the evening. You will have the opportunity to try on a full kilt outfit and have your photo taken, memories that you can take home and show your friends back at home. The dancing will begin at 7.15pm and will continue right through to 9.45pm. Ceilidhs are created so that you need not have any previous knowledge, as part of the band their is always a 'caller' this person talks you through the dances step by step, which means that everyone can do the dances. There are a few run throughs and then the music starts and the dance begins. We have beautiful hand made decor and a great team of volunteers who are around to help and ensure the whole evening runs smoothly and you enjoy yourself. There will be some free Scottish snacks for you to try as part of your ticket price. A stock bar which will serve alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and we will have a raffle with some incredible Scottish prizes including tickets to HM Royal Yacht Britannia. The evening is about having fun whilst raising money for our arts and culture charity BE United. You will have a fantastic evening and enjoy meeting lots of new people and learning some great Scottish dance moves. Of course you'll have a wee dram of whiskey also.
I co-founded a creative arts charity called BE United, it started in South Africa and now has a branch and the HQ in Edinburgh. The core of the charity has always been to use the arts to showcase culture and create connections. My passion is always to create events and opportunities for people to get to know each other, have fun and hopefully leave with new understanding and or friendships. I have focused for a long time on showcasing the culture and communities of Southern and Western Africa and recently I decided to raise funds for our charity to host several Ceilidh events which would showcase and celebrate my Scottish culture. I always thought that Scotland didn't have a rich culture, but I realise the beauty and depth of ceilidhs, it is very unique to Scotland and is a lot of fun. I look forward to sharing it.
