I will meet the students/parents in front of James Bridges Theater. (just a short walk through the parking tunnel on level 1 of Parking Structure #3- Southside) (coffee drinks to start will be provided). From there we will visit each other of the major landmarks of UCLA to familiarize the group with this expansive and beautifully green campus. Along the way, I will share both practical and entertaining information on important locations. Over the course of the tour, I will also explain the lingo, idioms, and slang relevant to their prospective life as an American student. Towards the end of the tour, I will summarize what they've learned with a short, customized and competitive AR game they'll be able to access from their phones with a simple QR code. (The quiz game is similar in style to Pokemon Go!) The last stop of the tour will include a photo op of each participant jumping in front of Royce Hall wearing a UCLA anniversary sash! This is such a great way for prospective students or expats to feel confident about their English before they move to LA or enroll at UCLA!
I have curated a fun and useful experience for English learners who are considering applying to UCLA in Westwood. This experience allows me to combine two of my great passions: UCLA (GO BRUIN!) and Teaching English as a second language. While UCLA offers tours of the campus, they are either conducted in megaspeed-English or in the language of the expat. However, neither of these properly prepares English learners for the American-university vernacular, idioms, and slang that they'll need in order to fit in on their new prospective campus. As one of Kaplan International's top-rated instructors and having formerly taught undergrad classes at UCLA as a grad school TA, I know how to make international students feel instantly at home and excited to learn as they tour. I've also taken my classes on countless tours similar to this
THE INVERTED FOUNTAIN: The current converges into a 12-foot wide and five-foot deep crater. DRAKE STADIUM: home of the UCLA Bruins soccer & track & field teams. Kennedy, Louis Armstrong, and Albert Einstein. FOWLER MUSEUM: exhibits Asian & African Art BOTANICAL GARDEN
