Mount Tamalpais (Mount Tam) has one of the BEST sunrises in the Bay. There is a road to the top, but it's only open to vehicles after 7 am - hiking is the only way to enjoy the sunrise most of the year. Rachelle and I will meet you in the parking lot next to Mountain Home Inn in Mill Valley between 5 and 6 am (Time of year dependent). I’ll send a group message before the hike with the exact meeting time. It's 2 miles on trails to the top with 1,600 ft. of elevation gain. You should be in moderately good shape for this hike, but we'll go at a pace that allows everyone to keep up. You'll see the glow of the sun half and hour before arriving to the top and we'll reach the summit ~15 - 25 minutes before sunrise. We'll spend 20-30 minutes at the top to give you time to watch the sunrise, take pictures, and soak it all in. You'll get amazing views of the Bay, Mount Diablo, and Sutro Tower. After the sunrise we'll head down to the parking lot on the same path we took up. Once back, we'll drive 10 minutes to Flour Craft Bakery (it's gluten free!) in Mill Valley where you can purchase coffee/tea and baked goods. This hike normally has 3-4 people (not including Rachelle and I). We've had as many as 10 hikers, and as few as 1. Hey, I'm Andrew :) I've lived in San Francisco for 6 years and I've been leading groups on hikes and backpacking trips for the last 10 years. I love helping people explore nature and new places and I especially love sunrise hikes. Before joining Airbnb I spent 3 years organizing and leading camps for veterans, including hiking camps. During my free time I take groups on backpacking trips and hikes and trail runs throughout Northern California. Hey, I'm Rachelle. I'm Andrew's wife and help co-host for this experience when my schedule allows me to join. I was born and raised in the Bay and love hiking and sunrises and baked goods just as much as Andrew. I can't wait to take you up Mount Tam to experience the magical sunrise. Instagram account to see more photos: @airbnbtamsunrise

Mount Tam used to be home to the Mount Tam and Muir Woods Railway, a railroad that went up to the top of the peak. It's the highest peak in the area and has views of the entire Bay Area. The Mill Valley Lumber Yard was founded in 1892 and has been converted into a place full of really great places to eat and relax. Flour Craft creates their seasonal menu from local ingredients in a dedicated gluten-free facility. https://flourcraftbakery.com/

You should be in moderately good shape to do this hike. Please wear sturdy running, walking, or hiking shoes as you'll need good footing in the dark and some spots are uneven. I've taken first aid courses to treat blisters, cuts, and sprains and will have a first aid kit on me during the hike.
