We - a small group of photo enthusiasts - will visit the André Kertész Museum in Szigetbecse (1 hour drive from Budapest) and see 70-80 of his prints - plus a modest collection of personal objects from his New York apartment. For a complete experience - to feel Kertész's spirit - we'll take a pleasant walk in the village and its natural surroundings - most inspiring locations of Kertész's youth - determining his style for the rest of his life. Previous check-in over limited opening hours, local language, age-taking public transport would make a hard reach otherwise. André Kertész - the world famous photographer - was born in Budapest, 1894. As a child he spent summer vacations with his relatives in a tiny little Danube-side village, Szigetbecse. Though he left Hungary in 1925, he never missed to check in to Szigetbecse every time he visited is homeland. During his last stay in 1984 he granted about 120 photographic prints to the community. After his death, in 1987 a Memorial House with a permanent exhibition was founded showing a collection of his prints and personal objects. "...Wherever I've been photographing landscape or people later, the land and the people of Szigetbecse was born again on each image." - A. Kertész
This is an opportunity also to see an unspoiled Hungarian Danube side village. Authentic country houses, gardens and a remarkably slower pace after Budapest.
